Barefoot Cay Resort is built around a privately owned 4-acre cay centrally located on the south shore of Roatan, just off the main road. Barefoot Cay has a dual personality – stand on its south shore and you feel like you are alone and completely away from civilization. You see the sandy beach and reef out to the open sea. Barefoot Cay Resort is located safely behind the reef, so even on a blustery day, a small boat or kayak can be taken all around the cay. On the north side, an 75-foot-wide channel separates Barefoot Cay Resort from the island of Roatan, where a dock, secure parking for guests, our oceanview luxury loft accommodations, and Barefoot Divers – a PADI-authorized 5-star valet dive center (see the Barefoot Divers website) – are located. The resort’s walk-on pontoon boats cross the short distance between the cay and the Roatan shore regularly, taking guests at a moment’s notice from one side to the other at any hour of the day or night.

From the dock on the shore side, there’s a driveway of approximately 500 feet that leads to the main road of Roatan. Taxis pass frequently for excursions to areas to the west or east of Barefoot Cay Resort. Rental cars are also available. Barefoot Cay Resort is positioned perfectly for the trade winds to create a tropical breeze over the entire cay. The reef is within swimming distance, and the cay’s sandy, shallow beach is your playground. And it is just a short boat ride to Mary’s Place or John’s Spot, two of Roatan’s top-rated scuba diving spots.

Pool Cabana

The 32’ X 32’ pool cabana building, with the Lookout Lounge upstairs, is located on the east end of the pool deck, providing a place sheltered from the sun to gather, read a book, play cards, watch a game, have a drink, or enjoy a meal prepared in the resort’s kitchen. The tropical wood louvers allow air to flow through, and the ceiling fans bring comfort, even on the warmest of days. The Bose sound system is designed to be utilized for guest enjoyment. The Lookout Lounge has a flat screen TV, if you’d like to catch a game. It’s another great place on Barefoot Cay to get away to your own world! The Pool Cabana and Lookout Lounge are non-smoking areas.

Meal and Beverage Services

The delicious meals are a highlight of staying at Barefoot Cay Resort. You’ll be the envy of the island, as meal and beverage services are available only to guests of the resort. Meals may be served in the pool cabana, or enjoy room service to your bungalow, loft, villa, or boat. You can select from yummy preparations of local or imported foods and alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages and blended drinks. Many of our guests have some meals here, as well as enjoying some of Roatan’s restaurants and preparing some meals in their rooms. Other guests want us to prepare all of their meals. The decision can be made on a day-to-day basis. We serve a variety of preparations that include local specialties, such as shrimp, lobster, and fish, as well as chicken and other meats.

Dine Anywhere You Like• In our main dining area, the pool cabana • In the second-story Lookout Lounge, a romantic spot with a breathtaking view of the cay and the Caribbean Sea • Poolside on the Cay or on our dive shop veranda • Room service in the comfort and privacy of your accommodations • As a picnic – just let our kitchen staff know if you’ll be heading out, and they can prepare a delicious picnic to take along • If you’d like to plan a romantic dinner, our staff will be happy to help set this up for you

Fitness and Spa Services

Massages, facials, and skin treatments is available right here at Barefoot Cay Resort, in addition to manicure and pedicure services. For guests interested in keeping up their exercise regimen during their vacation, we offer complimentary passes to a nearby gym that has a full range of cardiovascular equipment and weight machines. To enjoy fitness outdoors, make use of the resort’s kayaks, snorkel equipment, and water aerobic accessories.

Swimming Pool

The “T” shaped swimming pool has long steps and seats, a shallow area for play, two 50-foot lap lanes, and five whirlpool jets. Part of the pool is covered by a sun-filtering palapa to provide shade. Great for exercise or leisurely conversations, the pool is a friendly gathering spot. The surrounding terrace with gazebo is a great place to just relax with a cool drink and take in the tropical sunshine. Most of the pool deck is non-smoking. Smoking is permitted on the far west side of the pool area.

Sandy Beach

Walk on the beach, play, or just relax on a chaise lounge on the sandy Caribbean beach of Barefoot Cay. The water is shallow to the reef, which is only about 300 feet away.

Dock, Palapa and Swimming in the Sea

The 260-foot-long swimming dock with 30-foot-diameter thatched roof palapa at the end is a great place to get out of the sun. The 8-foot-wide dock takes you out to deep water swimming that is the incredible turquoise color of the Caribbean Sea. The palapa has a lowered platform for easy access to the water to snorkel, dive, or kayak. Just a short distance from the palapa is Barefoot Cay’s own sunken boat wreck, a small wooden sailboat that is attracting sea life into its hidey-holes.

Watercraft

Explore Barefoot Cay in one of several models of Cobra kayaks, or on a stand-up paddleboard. A pedal boat is also available. Private charter boat trips for diving and snorkeling are available 1/2 day and full day through the dive shop.

Diving, Snorkeling and Water Play

There’s excellent snorkeling in our extensive and protected “house reef” right off the Barefoot Cay Resort palapa, where a wide variety of marine life occupies the reef inside the breakwater reef wall. Just a short distance from the palapa is Barefoot Cay’s own small sunken boat wreck that is attracting sea life its their hidey-holes. Snorkel-mask-fin sets are available for guests at no charge. Snorkeling and diving is superb on the reef that shelters Barefoot Cay. The coral comes close to the surface, which provides excellent visibility of a myriad of fish and corals. The reef in front of Barefoot Cay features a wall that can be enjoyed either by scuba diving or by snorkeling. Guided snorkel trips to three different locations outside the reef wall can be arranged for guests at Barefoot Cay. Roatan’s most famous dive site, Mary’s Place, is just outside the reef at Barefoot Cay, as are many other fantastic Roatan dive sites. Mary’s Place encompasses a vast crevice in the reef wall and has breathtaking caverns to explore. John’s Spot, another of Roatan’s most popular dive sites, is also part of the Barefoot Cay reef. There are dive sites for all experience levels and interests, from corals to marine life to drift dives, shark dives, and more. The resort’s onsite 5-star dive service, Barefoot Divers, will take guests for a variety of Roatan’s dive or snorkel experiences. All dives are guided by PADI certified instructors or divemasters, and feature small groups (maximum of 8 divers, but usually fewer) and valet diving service (we do the work, you have the fun).
